It’s January 2014 and the latest version of the PMBOK® is here!In fact, the PMI® have published the latest editions of three foundational standards!
The three standards are:
¨Project Management Body of Knowledge 5th Edition
¨Program Management 3rd Edition
¨Portfolio Management 3rd Edition

Are the new standards available?

Will publication costs increase?
There is no price increase. The prices for all three titles will remain the same as the previous versions.
What are the major updates to PMBOK® 5th Edition?
¨The content from Section 3 “The Standard for Project Management of a Project” has been moved to Annex A1.The new Section 3 addresses project management processes and Process Groups.
¨The addition of a new Knowledge Area - Project Stakeholder Management - increases the Knowledge Areas from nine to ten.
¨Each major knowledge area has been reinforced in terms of their planning processes.

His CAPM® has brought him the professional confidence to tackle any project management situation. “With my CAPM®, I don’t run out of words during meetings, especially with other project managers and the rest of our operations team,” said Neil.

New PMP - Amit Khaldone
Congratulations to Amit Kaldhone, of Emerson (Middle East and Africa), who recently passed his PMP® exam. Amit said that the PMP® has opened up new horizons for him and paved the way for future growth. “It gives me confidence to tackle situations in a better way, both professionally & personally,” he said. “Before attending project management training, I was under the impression that Project Management is just to manage the project (resources/cost/time etc), as and when required. But after attending training session, I was completely surprised.”“Thanks to SMG for friendly, interesting training which encouraged me to understand project management in detail and prepare for the exam.”
New CAPM - Mohan Sekar
Congratulations to Emerson (Middle East & Africa) Project Engineer, Mohan Sekar, who recently passed his CAPM® exam. Mohan feels the certification is going to be an excellent boost to his project success!“Thank you to the SMG team for the proper guidance to this success,” he said. “It is going to be very good career milestone for me and the utilization / implementation of PM knowledge areas in my projects will change our way of dealing with projects towards success.”
New PMP - Danny Abbas
Well done to Danny Abbas, of the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) who passed his PMP® exam recently.
“The PMP® has benefited me by acting as a reference for best practice in the sometimes muddled world of project management,” said Danny, the TDIC’s Corporate Contact Centre Manager. It has opened my eyes to reasons why projects fail and how to avoid such outcomes. I am confident it will open up a variety of opportunities and help me stand out.”
Congratulations to Loay M. Jasser Ali of DEWA, who passed his PMP® exam recently. Formerly a Project Manager at Siemens LLC, he is now responsible for DEWA’s Electrical and Infrastructure Master Planning of Mega Projects at the Dubai Land area. Through his training & studies, Loay said: “I have sharpened my knowledge on how to manage successful projects smarter, rather than harder. The PMP® training at SMG was just to the point!” With the help of his studies and PMP® knowledge, he recognizes how some other factors are as important as the “traditional” triple constraints when it comes to assessing the success of his projects.
